As skilled musculoskeletal clinicians we are well placed to offer a clinical diagnosis after assessment. If we feel you need intervention such as a MRI or X-ray we will inform you of this and the clinical reasoning behind this, which will better equip you to discuss with your GP.
Our approach is very much a manual therapy “hands on” approach to treatment, we often combine this with electrotherapy such as ultrasound, and will usually give you some self-help exercises and education so that you can aid your recovery between treatment. As a general rule we find this approach offers you the most rapid recovery in most cases. The combination or blend of treatment is very much unique to every individual person that we see and depends on many factors we have to consider in our approach, one of our biggest factors is we listen to you as our patient.
This is one area in which we feel we really excel; we all are or have been competitive sports people ourselves so we know the frustration injury can bring. Our approach is too in-depth to fully explain here, but it is our passion and we aim to get you back achieving your goals. Complete rest is often not the correct path when injured, we like to think that we introduce innovative ways to train ‘around injury’ that you may not see elsewhere, allowing you to maintain a competitive fitness while recovering from injury.
Massage is an ancient technique used in most cultures around the world, at Platts Physiotherapy we mainly focus on the use of remedial and sport massage as we feel this has the greatest benefit to the musculoskeletal system.

Acupuncture and Physiotherapy
Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy as an integrated approach for the management of pain and inflammation. Through the insertion of needles into specific acupuncture points the body’s own natural healing chemicals are released to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation. Acupuncture is designed to restore homeostasis and bring all the body systems into a state of balance, therefore facilitating the body’s return to health both physically and mentally. It can be used for both acute and long term illness / injury. Acupuncture can aid in increasing range of movement and mobility by promoting relaxation of specific muscle. Acupuncture point selection and the number of needles used is determined through detailed assessment. Everyone’s treatment is tailored to meet their individual needs. The needles used are sterile and single use which will be in place for 15-20 minutes.
